Man found with 'very serious injuries' following suspected attack

Detectives are investigating after a man was found with 'very serious injuries' following a suspected assault near Wigan.

Officers discovered the 37-year-old at around 7.30am this morning (Sunday) at the Ferndale housing estate in Skelmersdale.

He was rushed to Aintree Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police believe he was the victim of an assault, which may have taken place at nearby Firbeck.

Lancashire Constabulary have launched an investigation but no arrests have been made and enquiries are underway to identify the attackers.

Det Sgt Di Higham, of West CID, asked anyone who may have seen or heard about the assault to contact police.

He said: “This incident has left a man with some very serious injuries which we believe at this stage are the result of an assault.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us piece together what has happened and identify the offenders to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0290 of today.

Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
