Man found with stab wounds in street

A man in his 20s was found with stab wounds on a Wirral street.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to Union Street in Seacombe, Wallasey, at 4.50am today, November 24, after reports of a fight between two men.

Emergency services were at the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

People living in the area expressed their concern after seeing a large police presence and cordon in place on Union Street and the adjoining Guildford Street.

One told the ECHO: "I saw police and forensics on Union Street and the road cordoned off at the back."

Another who spoke to the ECHO said a friend of theirs who had tried to help the victim had to remove items of their blood-stained clothing and hand them over to police for evidence.

They added: "There was a punch thrown and then one of my friend's mates ended up getting stabbed."

Another resident said on social media: "Just come home from there police all over CSI men in white overalls tape everywhere."

Detectives have opened an investigation, including house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries and the attacker is said to have run off from the scene in the direction of Rice Lane.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “This is an appalling attack, and we are urging anyone with any information to come forward so we can to find the people responsible and bring them to justice.

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area to see if anyone had witnessed the incident or has any information that can help with our enquiries.

"This incident took place around Union Street and Guildford Street in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 24 November), so if you were in the vicinity with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage at the time of the incident and saw anything, then please let us know.

"We will take positive action to remove those who use weapons to cause fear and violence in order to keep our streets safe."
