A man has been left with serious a injury after being assaulted in Kilwinning.
The victim was discovered lying on the ground at around 1.15am this morning following the serious attack.
Police say the assault took place in Morville Crescent at its junction with David Gage Street.
Detective Inspector Laura Young, of Ayrshire CID, said that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and detectives are appealing to members of the public who live in the location and may have seen or heard something suspicious.
Detective Young added: "There are a number of flats that overlook the area where the man was found and we are asking anyone who may have seen something from their home to get in touch.
"If you have any information which could assist our investigation, please contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0662 of 4 July. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
