Investigators are now working to establish how the incident happened.

Sergeant Craig Luckett, of Nottinghamshire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "We are currently working to establish how this incident came to happen and are appealing to anyone who may have any information that could help.

"If you were passing the area around the time it happened and saw anything suspicious on the roads or if you have dash-cam footage, we'd be really keen to hear from you.

"The man remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital and our thoughts are with him and his family who are being supported at this time."
