Man found with knife wounds to chest, arms and legs after woman stabbed multiple times to the back

A man was found with stab wounds in his chest, arms and legs after a woman was knifed "six times" to the back.

The woman was found seriously injured after paramedics were called to Walter Grove in St Helens at 12.30pm on Friday afternoon.

She was rushed to hospital shortly after police arrived at the house and discovered a man in his 40s inside the house, also with multiple stab wounds.

Officers confirmed that the man had been stabbed in his chest, as well as suffering cuts to his arms and legs.

People living in the area described the moment they found the injured woman in the road.

A neighbour told the ECHO: “We heard screaming and shouting in the road. Two of us ran out of our homes to see what was going on.

"We found the girl slumped in her drive. She had was screaming and crying.

"She had six stab wounds to her back. She was saying  ‘I am not going to die’ over and over."

By the time the neighbours found the woman an ambulance had already been called to the scene.

They added: "She had already phoned for an ambulance and she passed her mobile to me.

"I spoke to paramedics and waited for them to arrive. We told the girl she was going to be OK.

"She very upset. When police arrived I walked away.”

A large police scene is currently in place on Walter Grove as police and forensics launch an investigation into the incident.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Officers are currently in attendance in St Helens this afternoon (Friday, 24 January) following reports a woman in her 30s suffered multiple stab wounds.

"We were called shortly after 12.30pm to reports of an incident at a house in Walter Grove.

"The woman was treated by ambulance staff for multiple stab wounds to her back and has been taken to hospital where her condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.

"On entering the premises, a man in his 40s was found with stab wounds to his chest and lacerations to his legs and left arm. He has been taken to hospital and his condition is also described as serious but not life-threatening.

"Road closures are in place around Walter Grove."

Detective Inspector Leanne Hobin said: "We are in the very early stages of our investigation and would appeal to anyone with information to contact us so that we can establish exactly what has happened.”
