Man found with hundreds of child abuse photos and videos on computer after police raid

Police found hundreds of child abuse photos and videos on a Hamilton man's computer.

Officers forced entry to the empty flat and later confronted Neil MacLean at his workplace.

MacLean, 36, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted downloading indecent images of children at his home in Farm Terrace between February 2019 and December last year.

He also admitted possession of extreme pornographic material showing sexual activity between humans and animals.

Police armed with a search warrant went to the two-bedroom flat at 7.30am on December 17, 2021.

MacLean, the sole occupant, wasn't at home and officers forced entry and conducted a search before collecting MacLean from his workplace.

The court heard 519 photos showing child sex abuse were found on his home computer.

There were also 301 videos, including 214 in the most serious category.

The images featured girls and boys thought to be aged between two and 15 years old.

Forensic examination of the device also showed more than 3000 search terms related to child exploitation/abuse material.

Forty three videos featuring extreme porn were also found.

MacLean provided a 'no comment' interview at Motherwell police station.

Sheriff Linda Nicolson placed him on the sex offenders' register and deferred sentence until February for background reports, including a risk assessment.

MacLean, now of Wemyss Bay, Renfrewshire, had his bail continued.
