Man found with a Christmas gift bag full of 'dangerous synthetic cannabis'

A man got more than he bargained for in the January sales when the glittery gift bag he was carrying was searched by police.

South Wales Police were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously in High Street, Merthyr Tydfil , at 11:30pm on Thursday, January 9.

And it wasn't cut price clothes, cheap electricals or a late Christmas present in the man's golden gift bag, but a large amount of what is suspected to be synthetic cannabis, or spice.

The "substantial amount of dangerous synthetic cannabis" was wrapped in what appear to be food waste recycling bags, then stashed in the glittery gold gift bag.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation.

South Wales Police Merthyr Tydfil tweeted about the incident saying: "It’s a nice gift bag but I’m not sure this male got all of this in the January sale!

"Positive stop search in Merthyr Town centre with a substantial amount of dangerous synthetic Cannabis."
