Man found unresponsive in cemetery suffered 'drug toxicity and hypothermia', inquest hears

An inquest has been opened after a 40-year-old man was found unresponsive in the grounds of a Bolton cemetery.

A member of the public called police with concerns over his welfare after coming across Daniel Ashton, at Heaton Cemetery, on March 13.

Detectives from GMP's Major Incident Team arrived and Mr Ashton was pronounced dead, police coroners officer Stefan Wilson told Bolton Coroner's Court.

Officers then ordered a forensic post mortem to be carried out on his body.

Pathologist Dr Naomi Clare confirmed that the cause of death was 'multiple drug toxicity with hypothermia'.

Mr Wilson told the court that the drugs found in Mr Ashton's system included morphine, methadone and cocaine.

The police investigation concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement in the death.

Senior coroner Timothy Brennand adjourned the inquest until December 16.
