Man found 'unresponsive' in a car on Deansgate dies

A man found collapsed and unresponsive in a car has sadly died in hospital, police have confirmed.

He is understood to be aged in his 50s.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man's death was not being treated as suspicious.

Police and paramedics were called to Deansgate in Manchester city centre at around 4pm on Wednesday.

A section of the road close to the Hilton Hotel and the junction with Liverpool Road was sealed off by GMP.

North West Ambulance Service said the man, who hasn't been named, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Police confirmed he passed away there later.

No further details have been revealed.

A file of evidence is due to be passed to a coroner ahead of possible inquest hearings.

In a statement to the M.E.N., Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 4pm today, Wednesday, to a report of concern for the welfare of a man who was unresponsive in a vehicle on Deansgate, Manchester City Centre.

"Police and the ambulance service attended and a man believed to be in his 50s was taken to hospital, where he sadly later died.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

"A file will be passed to the coroner."

The incident sparked a large police presence.

Images from the scene showed an ambulance there and at least eight police vehicles.

In a statement NWAS said: "We were called to a patient in this area who had collapsed.

"We sent a land ambulance and an RRV and we took the patient to Manchester Royal Infirmary."

The sad news of his death was later confirmed by GMP.
