Man found unconscious in street after being kicked and punched on the ground by children

A man was knocked unconscious after being attacked by a gang of children outside a petrol station in Leeds.

The 36-year-old victim was found unconscious outside the BP garage on the junction of Harehills Lane and Nowell Lane in Harehills, Leeds, at 9pm last night (Wednesday).

He had been chased by the group, who then caught up with him before launching into a vicious assault.

The man was punched and kicked while lying on the ground and was left with facial fractures.

Police arrived at the scene a few minutes later but the children had run away down Kimberley View by the time officers arrived.

The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries and police put a cordon in place overnight to carry out forensic enquiries.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that they are treating the incident as grievous bodily harm with intent.

An investigation is underway to identify those involved and anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID by calling 101 and quoting the crime reference number 13200141483.
