Man found slumped over the steering wheel of a car had 15 packs of cocaine

A man was told he was lucky to be excused jail after being caught with 15 small packs of cocaine.

The comment came from Judge James Sampson who heard that the drugs offence took place in October 2017.

Since then Morgan Matveev has stayed out of trouble, Nottingham Crown Court heard. He was ordered to do 200 hours community work and was given a two-year prison term, suspended for 21 months.

"You can think yourself very lucky indeed," the judge told Matveev, 22, of Orchid Drive, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Roger Wilson, mitigating, said that Matveev has now got a job and works five days a week.

"If anyone can say they have turned their life around, Mr Matveev is hopefully the one," added Mr Wilson.

Christopher Jeyes, prosecuting, said that the offence came to light when police were called to a parked car with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

They had to bang on a window to wake Matveev, who was given a breath test and found to be over the alcohol limit for drivers.

A search of the car revealed 15 resealable bags which contained cocaine, said Mr Jeyes.

When Matveev's mobile phone was checked, it suggested that he was charging £70 for each bag. The cocaine had a purity of about 29 per cent and officers found evidence of customers.

"There was a dealer's list on the phone and repeated in a notebook," added Mr Jeyes.

Matveev pleaded guilty to having cocaine with intent to supply other people.
