The death of a missing 58-year-old man found shot in a burned Englewood home Tuesday is being investigated as a homicide.
Kenneth Keller’s girlfriend called police on Tuesday after she found him lying at the bottom of a set of basement stairs in the 6100 block of South Wood Street, Chicago police said.
Officers made a well-being check about 3 p.m. and found him shot in the head, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Autopsy results released Wednesday found he died of a gunshot wound to the head and ruled his death a homicide.
The medical examiner’s office found a .25-caliber bullet in his head, and detectives found a shell casing near his body in a pile of clothes, police said.
Investigators believe the shooting happened sometime between Feb. 26 and Tuesday, police said.
Police are also investigating a possible arson attempt.
The ceilings and curtains in the home’s bathroom and basement were burned, police said. A police report does not mention signs of forced entry.
No arrests have been made.
