Man charged after 'random assault' on Logan street

The man was taken to hospital but died there earlier this morning.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with murder after another man was found lying on a Logan road with significant injuries early on Friday morning.

Police say a 50-year-old man was found on the corner of Defiance Road and North Street in Woodridge south of Brisbane at about 5:00am.

The man was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with significant head, neck and chest injuries, but later passed away.

The 40-year-old Beenleigh man approached police at the scene and has since been charged with one count of murder.

He's due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Detective Inspector Chris Knight said the pair were not known to each other.

He said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved in the incident.

"The crime scene had been established, and within a short time after that it became obvious that a man with knowledge of what had occurred had approached police," he said.

"There's nothing to suggest that this is anything other than a random assault, which is of course very concerning.

"A random connection between the two that's escalated very quickly.

"But the simple fact is they unfortunately crossed paths, and a devastating outcome eventuated."

Detective Inspector Chris Knight said they are not looking for other suspects.

"When ambulance services arrived it was plainly evident that he had sustained a terribly violent assault," he said.

"There was a high degree of violence."

A secondary crime scene has been established as investigations continue.
