Man found injured in home in Swalwell after police called to early hours disturbance

A man who was assaulted in the early hours of the morning at a home in Gateshead was discovered by emergency services.

Police officers were called just before 3am on Thursday after reports of a disturbance on Ridley Gardens in Swalwell.

A 40-year-old man was found after being assaulted and he was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A police presence remained in the area several hours later with a cordon up near to the adjoining street of Clavering Road at 8am.

Buses were also unable to go down the street while the police investigation was ongoing.

The Go North East service 97 had to divert via Swalwell Bank and Market Lane between Milton Road and the Metrocentre.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said that inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

They added: "Anyone who has information about what happened, or knows the people involved, is encouraged to contact officers on 101 quoting log 88 16/01/20."
