Man found in Florida faces charges in fatal shooting on Southwest Side

Feb. 12--A Back of the Yards man was charged with first-degree murder after he was found hiding in Florida following a fatal Southwest Side shooting in September.

Around 5 p.m. on Sept. 5, a man was fatally shot in a building in the 6200 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue. Earlier that day, Pedro Corral, 16, and Luis Alfaro, 18, had arranged to meet and purchase marijuana from Giovanni Galindo, 24, police said.

The two met Galindo at his Kilpatrick Avenue home with the intentions of robbing him, prosecutors had said earlier. When Galindo showed them the marijuana, Corral then took out a semi-automatic handgun and shot him in the head.

The two grabbed the marijuana and fled. Galindo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Police said he was found in a stairway leading to the basement with a shattered jar of high-quality marijuana nearby.

Anthony Guedes, 22, of the 4700 block of South Hoyne Avenue, was charged Thursday morning with first-degree murder in Galindo's slaying, police said.

Corral, of the 3900 block of West 71st Street, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and denied bail in September. Alfaro was charged Oct. 15, and was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Guedes, who was extradited from Kissimmee, Fla., was scheduled to appear at a bond hearing Thursday.
