Man found dead on the pavement as police cordon off road

Police have sealed off a section of pavement after a man was found dead in the street.

Merseyside Police rushed to Price Street in Birkenhead at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 20 after they received a 999 call. Once at the scene officers found the body of a man in his 40's in the street.

Officers requested help from the North West Ambulance Service, but despite paramedics' best efforts, the man was dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death, and the man is yet to be formally identified.

Eyewitnesses saw police cars speeding to the scene, which is near the junction of Watson Street, with blue light flashing. At the height of the incident, three ambulances and six police cars were at the scene, along with police forensics officers.

Merseyside Police have put a cordon in place on Price Street while enquiries continue.
