Man found dead on Fife estate was 'harmless' and 'wouldn't hurt a fly'

A man whose body was found on a Fife industrial estate has been hailed as a 'harmless, lovely man' who 'wouldn't hurt a fly'.

We told how human remains discovered the Whitehill Industrial Estate in Glenrothes in September last year were that of Ean Coutts.

The 61-year-old lived in the nearby village of Kinglassie.

Ean's death is being treated as suspicious.

Police confirmed that a 30-year-old man was arrested in connection and released, pending further enquiries.

Locals paid tribute to Ean in their droves on social media.

Public posts hailed him as a 'polite and kind' man who 'kept himself to himself'.

One wrote: "R.I.P Ean.

"He was a polite and kind man.

Another commented: "This is such a sin.

"Ean was a lovely men."

A third posted: "R.I.P, so sad.

"He was completely harmless.

"Some people in this world are inhumane."

Another added: "He wouldn't have hurt a fly.

"He kept himself to himself."

Extensive enquiries, including the release of a facial reconstruction created by experts at Liverpool John Moores University, resulted in the breakthrough for police probing the grim find.

Enquiries into Ean's death are ongoing.

Officers are searching of a number of addresses in the Glenrothes and Kinglassie areas.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Houliston said: “We received a significant number of responses following release of the facial reconstruction and I would like to thank all those who contacted us.

“This has allowed us to identify the man as Ean Coutts and my thoughts are with his family at this time.

"I am appealing to anyone who knew Ean, who may have had any contact with him from around August, 2019, and anyone who has information that could assist with our investigation to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
