Man found dead on Ebbw Vale cycle path

A man's body has been found on a cycle path in Ebbw Vale.

Police were called at around 5.55pm on Saturday to Canterbury Road after a man, who had been riding a quad bike, was found unresponsive by a member of the public on the path between Beaufort and Nantyglo.

Officers attended the track, which is known locally as the Black Path, along with Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service.

A doctor from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service confirmed a 25-year-old man from the Ebbw Vale area had died. Flowers and candles have been left on a steel barrier on the cycle path.

A Gwent Police spokesman said: “His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a report has been submitted to the coroner in relation to the death.

“To assist the coroner, we’re appealing for any witness or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage in Canterbury Road between 5pm and 6pm to get in touch with us, by calling 101 or sending us a direct message on social media, quoting log reference 2200008080.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 5.59pm last night to reports of a collision involving a quad bike on Park Hill Crescent in the Beaufort area of Ebbw Vale.

"We sent a rapid response car and two emergency ambulances to the scene, where the crew were also supported by colleagues from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service."
