Man found dead in street

A man's body was found in a residential street.

Police said they were called to Heaton Street, in Standish, Wigan at around 6.45am on Thursday to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man in the area.

When emergency services arrived at the scene they found the body of a man in his 70s, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Paramedics attended the scene but pronounced the man dead.

While police say the investigation is still in its early stages, there are not believes to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly after 6.45am this morning, officers were called to Heaton Street, Standish, over concerns for the welfare of a man.

"NWAS also attended but, sadly, a man in his 70s was found deceased.

"The investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are ongoing. However, it is not believed to be suspicious."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or online at www.gmp.police.co.uk quoting incident 540 of 18/11/21.
