Man found dead in police custody in Scotland

Clydebank Police Station ( Google )

A 24-year-old man has died while in police custody in Clydebank.

Emergency services were called to the town’s police station at 3.30am on Sunday – but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has not been named and, when contacted by The Independent, a spokeswoman for Police Scotland declined to reveal why he was in custody or how long he had been detained for.

She said the incident was being treated as unexplained.

She said: "As is normal in these circumstances, the incident will be referred to PIRC (Police Investigations and Review Commissioner)."

Enquiries are ongoing and a report will be submitted a procurator fiscal for further investigation.
