Man found dead in Lake District after falling while on solo hike

A man has been found dead in the Lake District after failing to return home from a walk.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called to help find the hill walker in his 70s who had been walking in the Lake District.

Rescuers were callled out at around 10.37pm on Thursday.

When he did not return home after setting out in the morning, his son contacted the emergency services.

After a multi-agency search, the man was found fatally injured from a fall.

A statement from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team today (July 18) said: "Keswick Mountain Rescue and Lake District Mountain Rescue Searchdogs teams were deployed to cover possibilities around the man's intended route over Eagle Crag and Sergeant Crag.

"A Coastguard helicopter also assisted with the search. In the early hours of the morning the man was found, but tragically he had sustained fatal injuries from a fall. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go to his family and friends."
