Man found dead in hospital grounds arrived in ambulance but was not checked in

A man was found dead in hospital grounds after being driven there by an ambulance - but never checked in.

The male, in his 40s, was picked up by paramedics after becoming unwell on the street.

Police attended Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, Devon, a day later after his body was discovered.

And Plymouth Herald says forensic Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs) have carried out an examination of the area.

Investigators say they are releasing a description of the man as they want to hear from anyone who may have seen him in the hours leading up to his death.

He was described as being of Asian descent and wore a pair of black shorts, a red T-shirt and blue hoody top.

He also wore a baseball cap and had dark hair, shaved up around the back and sides but long on top.

Investigators say that at this time the man's death is not suspicious, but is unexplained.

A post mortem is expected to be carried out in the next few days along with toxicology tests in an attempt to determine his cause of death.

South Western Ambulance Service Trust and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust both said they are unable to comment while the police investigation is ongoing.
