Man found dead in Greenock flat as cops launch probe into 'unexplained' death

Police have launched a major investigation after the body of a man was found in Greenock overnight.

Officers from Police Scotland said they were treating the death of the 34-year-old as ‘unexplained’.

The body was discovered in a flat in West Blackhall Street in the early hours of this morning at around 1.20am.

Cops cordoned off a large section of the road between the Bank of Scotland and Grey Place as they conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area.

The investigation into the circumstances of the death continue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Daily Record: “Officers were called to an address at West Blackhall Street in Greenock at around 1.20am on Friday, 8 January, 2021 following the sudden death of a 34-year-old man.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
