Man found dead in canal in Wigan

A man has been found dead in a stretch of canal in Wigan.

Fire crews, police and paramedics were called to Leeds and Liverpool Canal off Chapel Lane, near the town centre, on Monday morning.

A man's body was found in the water. 

Officers are trying to identify the man.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services vehicles were seen at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 7.40am this morning on Chapel Lane, Wigan, we were called to reports of concern for welfare of a man.

"Emergency services attended and sadly found a body of a man."
