Man found dead in Caffè Nero toilets as 'nothing could be done to save him'

A man has tragically been found dead in the toilets of a city's Caffè Nero.

Police were called to the Caffè Nero in Ironmarket, Newcastle, North Staffordshire, at around 4pm on Monday following the shocking discovery.

Paramedics attended, but sadly nothing could be done to save the man.

The man, who is believed to be in his 70s, was confirmed dead at the scene.

It is believed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Manager Becci Cowee said: "We would like to send our condolences to the gentleman’s family.

"We are thankful that everyone who was in the cafe at the time was very respectful."

A spokesman for Caffè Nero added: "A customer in his 70s sadly died in our Newcastle-under-Lyme store.

"Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time."

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Officers attended reports a man’s body had been found in toilets in Ironmarket at 4pm yesterday.

"There were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been informed."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman: "We were called at 3.28pm on Monday to reports of a cardiac arrest in Caffè Nero, Ironmarket, Newcastle.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a North Staffordshire BASICS emergency doctor attended.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save a man and he was confirmed deceased on scene."
