Man found dead in Bolton believed to have suffered overdose - police say his death was 'not suspicious'

An inquest has opened into the death of a man at a multi-occupancy house in Bolton.

David Jones was found unresponsive on the floor of a shower in the bathroom of the house where he was staying on Bradford Street at around 10.30am on July 10 this year.

Police initially said they were treating the 46-year-old's death as suspicious and launched a murder inquiry.

However, investigations have since revealed there were 'no suspicious circumstances' surrounding the incident, senior police coroners officer Marcheta Hogan told the inquest.

Assistant coroner for Manchester West Catherine Cundy was told that Mr Jones, who had a long history of illicit drug use, is believed to have died of an overdose of heroin and diazepam.

Mr Jones had no known occupation, had previously lived at Hardy Mill Road, in the Harwood area of Bolton and was unmarried.

At the time of his death, a family member released a statement in tribute to the 46-year-old through Greater Manchester Police.

"David was a very big part of my life," it read.

"He was caring, respected and liked by everybody who knew him.

"He will be missed so much. I cannot imagine life without him."

Miss Cundy adjourned the inquest until March 29, 2022, at 2pm in Bolton.
