Man found dead in Avonmouth identified

A man who was found dead in Avonmouth last month has been identified.

A murder investigation was originally launched but police are no longer treating the death as suspicious.

The body was found submerged in water off Boundary Road on March 8

Police launched an appeal to help identify the man - unusually, hunts through missing people records and DNA checks did not shine any further light on who he could be.

Today (April 29), Avon and Somerset Constabulary said the man has now been formally identified as a 20-year-old from London who had been living in Bristol at the time of his death.

A forensic post mortem examination was conducted which concluded there were no obvious signs of injury.

DCI James Riccio said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

"The cause of death remains inconclusive, but we’re not treating it as suspicious.

"A file is being prepared for the Coroner’s office.”
