Man found dead in Airdrie street on Easter Sunday named locally as Peter Mcelroy

A man who died after being attacked on an Airdrie street on Easter Sunday has been named locally as Peter Mcelroy.

Local sources told the Daily Record Peter, 45, died following a disturbance on High Street at around 4.40pm on Sunday.

Emergency service s raced to the street but sadly Peter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland have now confirmed a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with his death.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a man, 38, has been arrested in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man in Aridrie.

"Officers received were called to the High Street in Airdrie around 4.40pm on Sunday, 12 April following a disturbance. 

"A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
