Man found dead amid 'possible gas leak' named as police search for next of kin

A man found dead at home following reports of a 'possible gas leak' has been named.

Police and firefighters were called to Newlands Drive, Prestwich, at around 8.20pm on Sunday evening (December 12).

Brian Lefley, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was cordoned off as forensics officers collected evidence.

Greater Manchester Police are now trying to track down Mr Lefley's next of kin.

In an appeal on the GMP Bury South Twitter page, a force spokesman tweeted: "Police are appealing for the public’s help to trace family of a man from Prestwich.

"Brian Lefley, 72, passed away at home on Newlands Drive on 12 December.

"Anyone with information about Brian's next of kin should contact the Coroner’s Office on 0161 856 9096."
