Man found dead after stabbing woman and injuring boy in suspected road rage attack

A woman was hit by a car then stabbed repeatedly in front of a teenage schoolboy, who was also injured, in a suspected road rage attack, police have revealed.

The driver was later found dead in woodland.

Police chiefs said the woman, aged in her 40s, suffered stab wounds to her arm in the horror attack.

She was taken to hospital, where police described her injuries as not life-threatening.

The boy - who police said was a child of secondary school age - suffered minor injuries.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged, police added.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Woodend area of Egremont in Cumbria.

In a statement, Cumbria Police said: "Police are investigating an incident that occurred at around 2:30pm in the Woodend area in Egremont.

"A red Kia Rio was in collision with two pedestrians a woman in her 40s and a child of secondary school age.

"The driver of the vehicle, a man in his late 20s, exited his vehicle and assaulted the woman.

"The woman suffered stab wounds to her arm, described as not life threatening. She was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle.

"The child suffered minor injuries, he was taken to hospital as a precaution and discharged.

"Police received a further call at 2:44pm to the report of a single vehicle collision on St Bees Road.

"The collision involved a red Kia Rio. Officers attended and located a man in a woodland area. The man in his late 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances at this time."

Police said there was no 'perceived threat to the wider public'. The incident is being investigated as an 'isolated incident'.
