Man found dead after police called to field

A man's body has been found in a field.

Police and paramedics were seen on Ruskin Avenue, Newton-le-Willows, at about 9pm on Monday.

It followed a report of a concern for safety. A 65-year-old man was found dead at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious, police added.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "At approximately 9pm, police were called to a concern for safety of a male in a park near Ruskin Avenue, Newton-le-Willows.

"Sadly, the 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

The matter has been referred to the coroner.
