An investigation is underway after a man believed to be in his 60`s was found dead following a fire at a house in Cork.
The tragic incident unfolded this morning in Connolly Park on the Lower Pouladuff Road in Ballyphehane.
The alarm was raised shortly after 8am with two units of the Cork City Fire Service responding.
It is believed that the man lived alone and was found in the kitchen of the house.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is understood the man was found in the kitchen of the house.
Gardai,fire brigades and the ambulance service were in attendance and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror:
"Gardaí attended the scene of a house fire at Connolly Park, Ballyphehane, Cork at 8.20am on May 6, 2021.
"Emergency service attended the scene where a man, aged in his 70s, was found inside the house.
"The man was brought to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
"The scene remains sealed off for a technical examination to be conducted. A file will be prepared for the local Coroner’s Office.
"Gardaí are not treating the incident as suspicious"
