A 56-year-old man was found dead Thursday after being hit by a car in Lake View on the North Side.
Joseph Ruta was discovered about 11 a.m. in an alley in the 1000 block of West Oakdale Avenue after being hit by a vehicle, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Ruta died as a result of blunt force injures from being ran over by a motor vehicle, the medical examiner’s office said. His death has been ruled an accident.
Police describe the vehicle that hit him as being a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Toyota.
Chicago Police’s Major Accidents unit is investigating the crash.
