Man found dead after being furloughed from work during coronavirus outbreak, inquest told

A man was found dead at his mother's home after being furloughed from his job as a result of coronavirus.

Christian Lewis, 44, from Gelli, Rhondda, was found dead on May 28 by his mother.

An inquest opening at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Thursday heard Mr Lewis had returned to the property at 6.45pm and appeared to have been drinking as he was unsteady on his feet.

He went to bed but at 10.30pm he was checked on by his mother and she found him hanged. The police were contacted and a handwritten note from Mr Lewis was found.

The hearing was told Mr Lewis had experienced mental health issues and had recently been furloughed from his job.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on June 1 and a provisional cause of death was given as hanging.

Coroner Rachel Knight expressed her condolences to Mr Lewis' family and adjourned his inquest until June next year.
