Man found critically ill in the middle of the road in Llantwit Fardre

Police are appealing for information after a man was found critically ill with serious head injuries in the middle of a road.

He was taken to hospital after being found by a member of the public in Llantwit Fardre in the early hours of New Year's Day.

South Wales Police were called to the Chandlers Reach estate at around 1.45am and a force spokesman said several people had come to the man's aid.

A spokesman said an ambulance was called and the man was taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

He added: "Officers would like to speak to anybody who was in the vicinity of Crown Hill and Chandlers Reach between midnight and 1.45am to get in touch."

Early inquiries suggest a number of people may have tried to help the man before an ambulance was called.

Neighbours in Chandlers Reach said they were told a man was found in the middle of the road by a driver who contacted the emergency services.

Some witnesses saw the man being treated by paramedics in Chandlers Reach having been moved from Crown Hill where he was found initially.

He was described as drifting in and out of consciousness but did not seem to be responding to those who were treating him, according to witnesses.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I hope whoever he is is okay. It’s quite a frightening thing to happen.” Another said: “It’s a sad day.”

Crown Hill was closed for several hours on New Year's Day as investigations took place.
