Man found covered in blood as frenzied knife attack leads to park closure

A man is in hospital after being subjected to an horrific knife attack in a Merseyside park.

The 21-year-old suffered wounds to chest, abdomen, head, buttocks, legs, hands and arms after being found in Bootle .

His injuries are said to be serious but not life threatening.

Emergency services were called to North Park, off Stanley Road, at 2.30pm following reports of an assault.

On arrival they found the victim covered in blood and with multiple injuries.

Police believe those wounds were caused by a blade.

Merseyside Police has launched an investigation, with house-to-house, witness and CCTV enquiries underway.

Parts of North Park are closed off and there is a partial closure of Knowsley Road and Stanley Road as forensics officers examine the scene.

Bootle has been a flashpoint for trouble in recent weeks, with two shootings and a firebombing in the Hawthorne Road area among a series of high-profile incidents.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via Twitter (@MerPolCC), by calling 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
