A man who was found outside a Southport convenience store "covered in blood" claimed he was dumped there after being abducted in Preston.

Members of the public alerted staff at the One Stop shop in Rufford Road in the Crossens area of the town on October 28, and looked after the man until police arrived.

Lancashire Police confirmed they were called at 6.53pm yesterday to reports a man in his 50s had been found with facial injuries in Southport.

A spokesperson said: "The man reported he had been taken from Fish Street, Preston, and transported to the junction of Rufford Road and New Lane, Southport.

"While in the vehicle the man was subjected to an assault and suffered facial injuries.
