A man was found bleeding in the street after being stabbed in the buttocks in a shocking city centre attack.

Whilst responding to the first incident, officers found a 27 year-old male on Back Colquitt Street with a stab wound to his buttocks.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injury and has since been discharged.

Detectives are now working to establish if the two incidents are linked and are appealing for information from anybody who was in the area.

Detective inspector Chris Saidi said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Seel Street/Colquitt Street area in the early hours of Sunday morning who saw anything to contact us.

“We were initially made aware of a large scale disturbance in the area of Seel Street and Colquitt Street in which two males were injured. The third man was located a short distance away and enquiries remain ongoing to establish if they incidents are linked.”

Liverpool community policing superintendent Diane Pownall said: “We understand that the city centre, and in particular the night time economy, has become busier since the lifting of Covid restrictions but I want to assure the public that there is robust policing plan in place to ensure we have officers patrolling our streets so that people can enjoy their night out safely.

“Knife crime has no place on Merseyside and we will continue to take any necessary action. Officers will be out and about in uniform and in plainclothes and I would encourage members of the public to engage with them and highlight any concerns.”
