A Canadian man who obtained a Lotto Max ticket from a draw over a month ago checked it to realize that he'd won a $1-million Maxmillions prize.
British Columbia resident Paul Masters left a Lotto Max ticket from an Aug. 16 draw in his wallet for over a month, with no idea how valuable it truly was.
"I was in the grocery store and had a few tickets in my wallet," Masters explained. "My first ticket won $1, second ticket was $20, which was exciting, and then I checked the third ticket which had a lot of zeroes. I checked again and put the ticket in a safety deposit box right away!"
A music lover and producer, Masters told journalists at Victoria Now that he will likely spend some of his winnings on obtaining new gear to pursue his hobby of audio-production, such as a new synthesizer.
He also expressed that he'd like to use some of the funds to travel.
"I haven't been to Japan yet and would like to visit," he said.
Ultimately, Masters is grateful for his winnings as his sudden fortune will help him care for his elderly mother and allow him to retire painlessly.
"I'm not concerned about retiring," said Masters. "I am currently looking after my mom and don't have any concerns to make sure she is well-cared for."
