Man forces woman out of her car at knifepoint in Douglas, Co Cork

A woman was forced from her car at knifepoint after stopping at traffic lights in Co Cork.

The terrifying incident happened in Douglas village at 11.10pm last night.

A man forced open the door of the woman's car and threatened her with a knife, Cork Beo reports.

He briefly got into the vehicle before running off on foot.

Gardai - including a dog unit - were quickly on the scene and the dog rapidly located the man, hiding in a park nearby.

The male - in his 20s is being detained at Togher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The woman, in her 30s, was not injured in the incident but she is said to be very shaken by her ordeal.

Gardai have confirmed they are investigating the unlawful hijacking and any members of the public who witnessed the incident are asked to get in touch with Togher Garda Station.
