Man forced to sleep in car as 4-month passport wait stops him flying to dream job

A sports centre manager is homeless and sleeping in his car after being caught up in the passport delays crisis.

Michael Jones, 25, landed his dream job at one of the world’s top university sports complexes in Saudi Arabia.

He applied for his first adult passport on February 28, expecting to receive it within five weeks.

He was told it would take 10 weeks but still has not received it 15 weeks on.

If he does not get it and fly by Friday he could lose the £40,000-a-year post at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Jeddah.

Michael quit his old job in April and moved out of his flat in Barry, South Wales, expecting to already be in Saudi.

He has been sleeping in his car and blames that for a chest infection that landed him in hospital.

Michael said: “It’s a nightmare. I’d be devastated if I lost the job – such a great opportunity.

“I know I’m one of thousands in the system but my whole future is at stake.”
