Sodden residents of a 92-unit tower in Brisbane have ended up in the street after a man allegedly turned on a fire hydrant and flooded at least seven floors.
Residents of the Vicinity tower at Woolloongabba were evacuated overnight after water began cascading down the walls of apartments.
Police said on Saturday every unit from the seventh floor down had major water damage, with lifts and stairwells also flooded along with hallways, the foyer and basement.
It's alleged the man deliberately turned on a seventh-floor fire hydrant. He's also accused of removing more than 10 fire extinguishers from eight floors, as high as the 12th floor.
The damage has been estimated in the high hundreds of thousands of dollars and that's expected to rise as assessments are done.
Police arrested a 25-year-old Woolloongabba man at the scene but have been unable to say what prompted his alleged actions.
He's facing charges including wilful damage and interfering with fire equipment, and will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
