Man flees after being ambushed in street robbery

A man fled in terror and left his bike behind after being attacked by thugs during a vicious robbery in a Liverpool street.

Police have yet to trace the injured victim who was set upon in south Liverpool during sickening scenes on Tuesday morning.

The man had his pedal bike stolen after being ambushed by two men at around 10.40am.

A cordon remained at the scene in Dingle Lane close to residential and nursing home the Turner Home.

The victim was seen running from the scene and police are continuing efforts to find the assaulted cyclist.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "At around 10.40am, officers were called to Dingle Lane to a call reporting that a man was assaulted by two men, and had a pedal bike stolen.

"The victim was seen injured and making off, and enquiries are ongoing to locate him."

Witnesses are being urged to come forward.

Enquiries are ongoing at the scene, including forensics and CCTV.

Detective Inspector Amy Smith said: “We’re keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, and to the victim, to ensure that he is safe and well. Our enquiries in the area are continuing.

A 31-year-old man from Everton was detained nearby and has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken to a police station for questioning.
