Man finishes long shift at The Christie hospital before finding his bike has been stolen

A man finished a long shift at The Christie to find his bike had been stolen in the latest string of bicycle thefts from the hospital.

The victim was ready to cycle home from the cancer centre in Withington on afternoon of Tuesday, May 12 when he discovered his grey Boardman Hybrid bike had gone.

Officers are planning to increase patrols in the area and are 'liaising with security at the hospital', a post on the GMP Fallowfield page said.

Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News reported that there has been a worrying trend of bike thefts from hospitals across south Manchester and the city centre.

Police are urging anyone who has information about the latest theft to come forward.

They are asking anyone who has been sold a bike at a price 'too good to be true' to be aware that it may have been stolen.

The post, on the GMP Fallowfield Facebook page said: "Another stolen bike...this time from the Christie Hospital.

"The victim came to get his bike last Tuesday afternoon (12th May) after his long shift at the hospital to find it gone.

"It is a grey Boardman Hybrid bike.

"This has happened a few times recently, and it is now included in our patrol plans and we have liaised with security at the hospital.

"Investigations are ongoing, but we also need your help.

"Have you seen this bike? Been offered any recently for sale at a price too good to be true?

"Or has a loved one/friend suddenly managed to acquire a nice new bike for themselves that you thought was suspicious?"

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, quoting the reference number CRI/06A3/0007160/20.
