Man fined for smoking mamba in Nottingham shop doorway

A homeless man chalked up his 173rd offence when caught leaning in a shop doorway smoking mamba.

Liam Clark, 35, admitted the offence when he faced city magistrates , who fined him £160.

This was written off because he had spent a day in custody awaiting the court hearing. But he must pay £32 government tax.

Jameel Malik, mitigating, said: "He was seen standing in a doorway smoking a cigarette of mamba.

"His record started at a young age. The majority is theft and Class A drugs.

"In a way, he is weaning himself off by using mamba instead of Class A drugs."

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, said that Clark was seen on Beastmarket Hill at 7.20pm on September 8. He had a small amount of mamba.

The offence took place two days after magistrates gave him a conditional discharge for an identical matter.

Mr Jerath told the JPs: "It is some record. I have to scroll down multiple entries."
Clark, who receives universal credit, told the court that he has an appointment to arrange a home for him.
