Man fined for going to friend's house for a brew

Police have fined a man who was found at his friend's house after popping round 'for a brew'.

The latest lockdown rules in England make it illegal to leave your home without a legitimate excuse and illegal to be in someone else's house without good reason.

That means the man faces a £200 fine - reduced to £100 if he pays within 14 days.

If he refuses to pay the matter could go to court where tougher penalties and a criminal record can be dished out.

According to MEN, in a Facebook post, officers from Greater Manchester Police Force's Golborne and Lowton team wrote: "As a follow on from yesterdays post reminding you we are currently in Lockdown 2.0 as they say and under Government restrictions, a fixed penalty was issued to a male last night who decided he was going to see his mate and have a brew with him and to make matters worse he tried to lie about why he was there.

"You cannot go to another person's address unless for certain exemptions i.e. child care, support bubble etc. full details are available on line."
