Police arrested a man for allegedly charging a 100-baht parking fee on people arriving with private vehicles on Ratchadamnoen Road to mourn the passing of the late King Rama IX and to see the dress rehearsals of cremation-related processions.
The Royal Thai Police Office said on Saturday that police of the Chana Songkhram station arrested the man after a video clip was distributed via social media showing him answering a complaint from a volunteer against his parking fee collection on Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue that is a public road.
Police said that the man was fined 1,000 baht for causing disturbances and his profile would be put on police's criminal records.
Media reported that the man was identified as Tom Rodthabthan, 39, who allegedly charged motorists 50-100 baht for parking along the avenue in front of the old compound of the Government Lottery Office.
It was reported that he had confessed and said he earned 1,000-2,000 baht a day from doing so over the past month. He also said about five other people did the same.
