A man has been fined after he called Australia's prime minister Scott Morrison, a “f****** muppet”.
As he was speaking to members of the public and having his picture taken at the Bathurst 1000, a touring car race in New South Wales, Allan Maccaul approached him.
“F*** you. You're a f****** muppet, you’re a f****** muppet," the 26-year-old, from Berriedale in Tasmania, shouted at him.
Protection officers surrounded Mr Morrison intervened and cautioned Maccaul who then repeated the phrase.
He was then arrested and police searched his bag, where they found cannabis and LSD.
"It's just a bit of weed. It’s just enough for a joint, I was going to smoke it while I watched the race,” he said when officers found his cannabis.
Maccaul was charged and summoned to court but he failed to turn up.
Although he wasn't present, he was convicted of behaving in an offensive manner and for two counts of possession.
He was fined $500 (£280) for his remarks to Mr Morrison and $800 (£450) for possession.
