A driver has been fined after police carrying out a routine check found his licence expired nearly 40 years ago.
Stephen O'Connor's VW Golf was pulled over on the A993 in Bo'ness, West Lothian last September last year.
Prosecutor Amy Sneddon told Falkirk Sheriff Court: "The accused was driving, and a check on the Police National Computer showed he held only a provisional driving licence which had expired on the 24th of June 1981."
Sheriff Derek Livingston said: "A wee bit out of date."
Miss Sneddon replied: "Just a bit. He was also not accompanied by another driver and he wasn't displaying L-plates."
Insurance had been taken out on the car, but the fact that it was being driven illegally by a person with an expired provisional licence invalidated the policy.
O'Connor, 63, of Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, who was not personally present in court, pleaded guilty by letter today to driving without a valid licence and having no insurance.
The offences were committed on September 10th, 2020.
He was fined £485 and disqualified for eight months.
