Man fined after dogs recorded barking 1,645 times in 20 minutes

A man has been fined after his dogs were recorded barking more than 1,500 times in 20 minutes.

John Peter Laveric, 45, was convicted last March on two charges of breaching a noise abatement notice in Widnes, Cheshire.

Warrington Magistrates’ Court heard complaints of noise nuisance continued after the notice was imposed in July 2019.

On one occasion last year, Laveric’s "large mastiff-type dogs" were recorded barking 1,645 times during the course of 20 minutes, equating to more than one a second.

In a separate incident, 1,293 barks were recorded over a period of 47 minutes, reports the Liverpool Echo.

On February 1, Laveric, of Pit Lane in Widnes, was fined £200 by District Judge Nicholas Sanders and ordered to pay £300 towards council costs.

He must also pay a £34 victim surcharge.

Halton Borough Council has applied for a criminal behaviour order (CBO) against Laveric, with the matter adjourned to July.

A council spokesperson said: “The council takes all allegations relating to noise nuisance seriously and we will always work with residents to try and resolve any noise issues informally.

"However, we hope that this case sends out a clear message that the council will always strive to protect the interests of those affected by noise nuisance and will not hesitate to take robust enforcement action against the most serious and persistent offenders."
